About NexaCore OS

Standard background copy — safe to quote or paraphrase.

NexaCore OS is an independent open-source project: an AI-native, privacy-by-construction, decentralized operating system. Today's operating systems were designed before modern AI; NexaCore OS treats inference, model orchestration, and intelligent agents as kernel-level primitives instead of bolted-on cloud services, running locally by default and federating with other instances over a peer-to-peer mesh of cryptographically-attested nodes rather than commercial cloud APIs. Privacy is enforced by the protocol, not by policy. The codebase is Apache-2.0 and the protocol specifications are public domain, so the project's openness does not depend on any single organisation — forks are first-class citizens by design. The full source is public on GitHub at github.com/CySalazar/nexacore-os.

The project's long-term stewardship and governance structure will be announced as the project matures. See the technology deep dive for architecture detail, or the project status for what runs today versus what is planned.

Quotes — ready to attribute

“Today's operating systems were designed before modern AI. NexaCore OS is built around it from the kernel up — without handing your data or your control to a cloud.” Matteo Sala · Founder, NexaCore OS
“Privacy shouldn't be a policy you have to trust. On NexaCore OS it's enforced by the protocol — cryptographically, on hardware you own.” Matteo Sala · Founder, NexaCore OS

FAQ

For journalists

The questions we are asked most, answered so you don't have to email.

Is NexaCore OS a Linux distribution?

No. It is a from-scratch operating system built on a Rust microkernel with its own frozen system-call ABI — not a Linux distribution, kernel fork, or reskin.

Can I run it today?

It is Phase 1 alpha software (v0.3.0-alpha.2). The microkernel boots and runs under QEMU, Proxmox and VirtualBox as a proof of concept. It is not yet a daily-use operating system. The full source is public on GitHub, so you can read, build, and boot it yourself.

Is it a company or a project?

An independent open-source project, founded by Matteo Sala. The long-term stewardship and governance structure will be announced as the project matures.

How should I write the name?

One word for the product name, capitalised as NexaCore, always followed by OS: “NexaCore OS”. Said “NEK-sa-core O-S”.

What does the licensing mean in practice?

The code is Apache-2.0 and the protocol specifications are public domain. Anyone may read, use, and fork the work; forks are first-class citizens by design, so the project's future does not depend on any single organisation.
